According to the census carried out in 2022, the population of Sighetu Marmației municipality amounts to 32,793 inhabitants, down from the 2002 census, when 41,220 inhabitants were registered. Most of the inhabitants are Romanian (71.1%). The main minorities are Hungarians (8.4%), Ukrainians (1.6%), Roma (1.3%), and (8.65%) of the population belonging to another ethnic group. From a religious point of view, most of the inhabitants are Orthodox (60%), but there are also minorities of Roman Catholics (8.7%), Greek Catholics (4.1%), Reformed (2.6%), and other denominations or without religion (24.6).
